Category: Group think

Group think (or tunnel vision) can have disastrous consequences when an organisation or group face a changed situation and people refuse to accept the new reality.

Within the intelligence profession, there is a large legacy of carefully constructed logic for explaining what is happening in the world. The logic is built on major assumptions. Statistically, some of the assumptions will be wrong, often significantly wrong. The challenge for practitioners is to know when to accept group think, and when to challenge it.
